St. Michael Catholic's Tia Acker won all three of her events and set a state meet record and Foley's Taniya Bragg and Emily Wolf also earned individual gold medals to highlight local achievements at the AHSAA 4-7A track and field state championships at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores last weekend.

On the 4A stage, Acker, a junior at St. Michael Catholic, swept the sprint events (12.19 in the 100, 24.56 in the 200, 55.65 in the 400) for the Cardinals. She also broke the state meet record in the 200-meter dash by nearly a tenth of a second to unseat Lincoln's Shelbi White who set it at 24.64 seconds in 2014.

The Foley Lions from Class 7A had a pair of individual champions in the field events to help propel the team to a sixth-place finish in the state. Bragg, a senior, won the javelin with a best throw of 130’ 6” – which also set a personal record – and Wolf, a junior, took first in the discus with a top distance of 118’ 2”.

Foley kept the momentum going by scoring points in the field events, eighth-grader Zi-morah Foster finished third in the long jump (17’ 4.75”), senior Ella Cleverdon took fourth in the high jump (5’ 2”) and Tamia Dantzler registered sixth in the triple jump (34’ 11.25”).

Elberta throwers scored points in the shot put (sophomore Morgan Thrift – 31’ 0.25” for 8th) and discus (junior Olivia Akins – 101’ 10” for 6th; Thrift – 101’ 3” for 7th) at the 5A level.

On the 6A circuit, junior Kate Miller scored points for Spanish Fort in the 800- (2:21.13 for 7th) and 3200-meter (11:47.30 for 8th) runs. Gulf Shores and Robertsdale had individual representatives in the javelin throw where junior Lily Zlab represented the Makos in 11th (100’ 7”) and senior Peyten Salvaggio took 15th (91’ 7”) for the Golden Bears.

Also on the 7A level, senior Tiana Smith represented the Daphne Trojans with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump (35’ 0.25”), 11th in the high jump (5’) and 13th in the long jump (15’ 2.5”). Fairhope had athletes compete in multiple events, junior Mackenzie Stockton participated in the shot put (34’ 1.25” for 11th) and javelin (91’ 1” for 12th), junior Delany Hart ran the 3200 (13:16.82 for 21st) and 1600 (5:25.10 for 22nd) and freshman Brooklyn Ewart did both the long jump (14’ 8” for 19th) and triple jump (31’ 3.25” for 21st).

Ossler, Hall, Prim all earn medals

On the boys’ side, senior Tripp Miller got points on the board early for St. Michael Catholic where he took fourth in the 1600-meter run (4:31.81) and third in the 3200-meter run (10:10.78) on the Class 4A circuit.

At the 5A level, Elberta junior Cameron Ossler took silver in the 300-meter hurdles (40.52) and finished sixth in the triple jump (42’ 1.25”) to help the Warriors finish 16th overall.

Senior Cooper Wilson and junior Hunter Hall teamed up to score points for the Spanish Fort Toros in Class 6A throwing events. Wilson finished fifth in the shot put (48’ 3”) and discus (134’ 7”) and took fourth in javelin (170’ 2”). Hall registered 20th in shot put (41’ 3.5”) but bounced back to earn bronze in the discus (136’ 9”).

Sophomore Winston McGhee represented Spanish Fort in the 800 (2:00.64 for 16th), 1600 (4:29.27 for 17th) and 3200 (9:54.61 for 16th) and competed against Robertsdale senior Tyler Stevenson in the 800 (2:03.65 for 22nd).

Junior Mecca Yost-Nicely just missed out on scoring points for Robertsdale in the discus (128’ 8” for 9th) and junior Avery Tipler represented Gulf Shores (114’ 7” for 19th). Baldwin County’s lone representative, freshman Zion Simpkins, took 19th in the 400-meter dash in 56.64 seconds.

Fairhope senior Davis Amare registered top-10 finishes in the distance events, including the 800 (1:58.72 for 9th), 1600 (4:19.58 for 8th) and 3200 (9:47.44 for 8th). In the throwing vector, Foley junior AJ Prim took bronze in the discus (147’ 5”) and finished 11th in shot put (46’ 1.5”).
