The David L. Bodenhamer Recreation Center lobby renovation uncovered a few issues that require an increase to the renovation budget.
In May 2021 the Gulf Shores City Council adopted a resolution awarding The Green-Simmons Company, Inc. the contract for the Bodenhamer Center lobby renovation. The contract was awarded in an amount not to exceed $255,000.

During the Oct. 4 City Council work session, City Engineer Mark Acreman explained to the council that two issues came to light during construction necessitating a $29,500 change order.
“The first issue is there is a lot of additional electrical work needed to supply ground power to the 12 cardio equipment areas. We had to saw cut through the slab, run conduit through the slab and pour over them so the cardio units could be connected to a power source and not create a trip hazard. That also required some additional work to be done on the wall itself and distribution panel,” Acreman said.
Acreman said the second item was a flooring upgrade that is longer lasting than the product originally called for in the contract.
The change order will be funded from the existing $702,000 budgeted in the Recreation Impact Fees account. Several projects came in under their projected expense leaving $48,000 that will be used to cover the change order.
The City Council voted unanimously to pass a resolution authorizing a change order in the amount not to exceed $29,500 to the contract between the city of Gulf Shores and The Green Simmons Company, Inc.
