Blakeley State Park offers new cruises

Posted

Historic Blakeley State Park is offering several unique cruises this summer that allow guests to explore the wild and beautiful Mobile-Tensaw Delta and the greater Mobile Bay area.

On Friday, June 24, the park will offer one of its popular sunset cruises. The cruise departs from the Blakeley dock at 7 p.m. and sets sail to the head of Mobile Bay for stunning views of the setting sun before returning upriver. Complimentary snacks and drinks will be provided.

In July, the park will give visitors a look at the lower and upper extremes of the Delta's incredibly diverse habitat. On July 2 the new Lower Delta cruise will explore the forgotten southern reaches of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. This is a unique, two-hour adventure through a hidden natural habitat just minutes from Mobile and the communities of Eastern Shore.

The cruise departs from the Blakeley dock and travels down the remote reaches of the scenic Raft River, through the ancient channel of Spanish River, and across picturesque Delvan Bay before heading back up the storied Tensaw.

On July 9, the attention will be turned to the upper reaches of the Delta to showcase what many call "America's Amazon" in its most natural setting. This cruise departs from Live Oak Landing on the Tensaw River, ventures up this storied waterway, around the infamous "Devil's Bend," and into famed Bottle Creek before journeying down the wild Middle River and returning to the Tensaw.

On July 16, we venture into Mobile Bay for a cruise down the scenic Eastern Shore to the historic Middle Bay Lighthouse.

This cruise leaves from Five Rivers Delta Resource Center, sails past Point Clear, Gaillard Island, and amazing local wildlife including on occasion alligators and dolphins.

On July 23, step back into history with a special two-hour excursion from the Blakeley dock to discover the site where the famed "Ghost Fleet" — a naval reserve fleet of hundreds of vessels kept in readiness for service in the decades after WWII—were once moored.
