Billy's Gourmet Hot Dogs expanding to Gulf Shores

The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council reports that while Americans buy 350 million pounds of hot dogs at retail stores — about 9 billion hot dogs — the actual consumption is likely higher. The Council estimates total annual hot dog consumption at around 20 billion, averaging 70 per person. Hot dogs are served in 95% of U.S. homes, with 15% purchased from street vendors and 9% from ballparks.

And in Gulf Shores, soon there will be another place for residents to get their hot dog fix.

The Highland Group has been selected as the general contractor for Billy's Gourmet Hot Dogs, a beloved Denver-based restaurant, as it sets its sights on the Southeast according to a news release. The first of three planned locations will open in Gulf Shores, strategically located across the expressway from the future home of Gulf Shores High School and just before the bridge to the island.

Known for its specialty hot dogs and a dedicated following in Colorado, Billy's Gourmet Hot Dogs operates several successful locations in Denver, including one near Coors Field. The expansion into Alabama marks an exciting new chapter for the company, with additional restaurants planned for Orange Beach and another undisclosed location in Baldwin County.

The new Gulf Shores restaurant will span 2,400 square feet at 6915-M Foley Express. This new construction project will encompass site work and landscaping, and The Highland Group has already commenced construction. By managing all three locations under a single contractor, the project is designed to benefit from streamlined timelines and consistent quality throughout each site.

Scott Shamburger, president and CEO of The Highland Group, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership.

"Our team is honored to be a part of Billy's Gourmet Hot Dogs' expansion into the Southeast," Shamburger said in the release. "Billy's has a fantastic reputation in Denver, and I believe Alabama beachgoers and residents will make Billy's Gourmet Hot Dogs a part of their own family tradition for years to come."

The design and construction team for this project includes Presence Design Group, Thompson Engineering, Stewart Engineering & Construction and Yetiweurks|Elmendorf Geurts, all committed to delivering excellence and efficiency in the multi-site buildout.
