BCSO hosts National Honor Guard training

ROBERTSDALE — The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office recently hosted a week-long training session with the National Honor Guard Academy.

Based in Seminole, Florida, the National Honor Guard Academy, led by Commanding Officer Doug Swartz, provides honor guard training throughout the country for firefighters, police officers and EMS personnel.

Training in Baldwin County included 58 participants from 16 agencies in seven states: Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina.

Classroom training was conducted Monday through Wednesday at the PZK Hall in Robertsdale, with Thursday’s session including simulated drills at the First Baptist Church and Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale and the Silverhill Memorial Cemetery.

Training concluded Friday with a graduation ceremony.
