There was plenty to cheer about when local teams returned to Baldwin County following top finishes at the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s cheerleading state championships earlier this week in Birmingham.
The Tigers from Baldwin County High School finished second in the 6A varsity coed division and earned the school’s first state placement in history, Bayside Academy (3rd) and St. Michael Catholic (6th) earned top-10 finishes in the 4A traditional division and Fairhope (4th) and Daphne (9th) did the same in the 7A game day division.
In addition, Orange Beach (10th) and St. Michael (12th) recorded top-15 finishes in a 26-team 4A game day division and Fairhope Middle School grabbed fifth place in the junior high game day large division.
Some of those teams earned their spot at state thanks in part to a top-two finish in the South Regional where three emerged as champions: Bayside Academy in 4A traditional, Baldwin County in 6A coed and Fairhope in 7A game day. St. Michael Catholic came in second in 4A traditional, as did Fairhope Middle in junior high game day.
