All three of Baldwin County’s remaining playoff teams are set to hit the road in the second round of the postseason this weekend.

In Class 3A, the Bayside Academy Admirals will take over Faulkner University’s Hilyer Stadium with the Alabama Christian Eagles as the St. Michael Cardinals will take a road trip to face the Pleasant Grove Spartans in Class 4A and the Spanish Fort Toros will square off with the Hueytown Golden Gophers on the Class 6A stage.

Bayside Academy Admirals at Alabama Christian Eagles

In their first second-round action since 2021, Bayside Academy will be searching for its first third-round berth since 2016 when it faces Alabama Christian at the home of the Faulkner University Eagles.

The teams met in the previous two regular-season finales and split the matchups where the Admirals won 35-7 in 2023 and lost 43-18 in 2022.

Bayside Academy, who is in the playoffs for the sixth-straight year, owns a 3-1 record in the second round all-time and the Eagles, who are making their ninth-consecutive postseason appearance, are 1-3 at home in the second round.

The Admirals will enter 8-3 overall with a 4-1 record in away games this season. Bayside Academy has allowed an average of 12.7 points per game with six single-digit efforts, half of which were shutouts.

Alabama Christian will be 7-4 with a 3-2 record in home games this year. The Eagles have averaged 37.6 points per game offensively but have also allowed an average of 31.3 points per game where only three opponents failed to score more than 20 points against them.

St. Michael Cardinals at Pleasant Grove Spartans

St. Michael is officially in uncharted territory after the Cardinals secured the program’s first-ever postseason victory last week to open the Class 4A state playoffs.

Riding its second five-game winning streak of the season, St. Michael will enter 10-1 overall with a 6-0 record in away games. The Cardinals are averaging 39.1 points per game including six games with more than 40 points.

Pleasant Grove lost its regular-season opener then hasn’t lost again to hold a 9-1 overall record featuring a 5-1 mark in home games so far. The Spartans have a similarly potent offense with an average of 44.6 points per game including three games with more than 50 points. The defense has been similarly impressive with an average allowance of 11.3 points per game with six single-digit efforts including a pair of shutouts.

Making its 13th-consecutive playoff appearance, Pleasant Grove is 9-6 all-time in the second round with a five-game winning streak in the Sweet 16. The Spartans also carry a 3-4 mark in second-round home games where the most recent one came in 2021.

Spanish Fort Toros at Hueytown Golden Gophers

No strangers to the postseason, Spanish Fort will bring its 7-2 all-time record in away games in the second road on the road to face Hueytown with a trip to the third round on the line.

The Toros punched their postseason ticket for the 17th-consecutive season with wins in five of their last six regular-season games and finished outscoring opponents 31.5-16.6 on average.

Spanish Fort will enter 9-2 overall with a 4-1 mark in away games and the Golden Gophers will be 8-3 overall with a 4-1 record in home games this season. Hueytown qualified for a ninth-straight state playoff and will be searching for its first second-round win since 2021. The Golden Gophers won five-straight games to end the regular season and have outscored all opponents 32.5-19.7 on average.

The only previous meeting between the teams also came in postseason action when the Toros earned a 25-0 win in the third round of the 2010 playoffs. Spanish Fort, head coached by current ULM headman Bryant Vincent, went on to earn its first state championship that season.
