The boys’ team from Bayshore Christian and the girls’ squad from Bayside Academy won the team titles from Thursday’s Baldwin County championship meet on the cross country course of Bicentennial Park in Bay Minette. The Section 1 Championships for Classes 5A-7A will be held at the same location on Nov. 2.

Eagle junior Caden Phillippi won the boys’ race to help Bayshore Christian claim its second consecutive team championship from the event. Similarly, the Admirals had five finishers register top-15 spots for Bayside Academy’s third straight team title from the Baldwin County Championships.

Senior Alexiana Hinote crossed the finish line first in the girls’ race for the Spanish Fort Toros. She was joined by two more teammates in the top 25 to help them finish fourth in the team competition.

Both individual champions had previously set school records for the 5,000-meter run where Hinote’s time of 18:56.2 at the Jesse Owens Classic in Moulton on Oct. 7 topped the previous record by six seconds. At the Daphne Invitational in Spanish Fort on Sept. 30, Phillippi registered a time of 15:52.2 to set a new school-best mark in the event.

Eagles soar to second straight championship

In the boys’ race on Thursday, Phillippi was supplemented by two Bayshore Christian teammates in crossing the finish line in the top 15 where the other two Eagle point-scorers, junior Jack Wheeler in 17th and eighth-grader Henry Barber in 21st, grabbed top-25 finishes.

Other top performances came from second-place Spanish Fort who was led by senior Winston McGhee’s third-place finish. He was joined by four more Toros in scoring points in the top 25 of the standings, including seniors Tyler Lemoine in 12th, Gersan Gamez in 20th, Jeremiah Smith in 22nd and junior Henry Barrett in 24th.

Fairhope finished third in the team competition with senior Lane Watson’s runner-up finish pacing the Pirates ahead of two more top-25 finishers, sophomore Ian Brown in 13th and junior Will Garner in 19th.

Fourth-place Gulf Shores and seventh-place Foley both had a pair of runners earn all-county distinction with top-15 spots. Four more schools — Robertsdale, Daphne, St. Michael and Elberta — each had one representative finish in the top 15 to earn spots on the All-County list.

Admirals claim third consecutive title

Although the Admirals didn’t take the top spot individually in the race, Bayside Academy had three top-5 finishers to help win the team title. The Admirals’ two other point-scorers also earned All-County honors with top-15 spots.

The girls’ team from Bayshore Chrisitan finished as runners-up in the team competition with three top-10 finishes in addition to two more top-25 marks from seniors Anne Adamson in 16th and Emily Adamson in 21st.

The Pirates from Fairhope also earned third place in the girls’ competition with two All-County finishers and three more top-25 runners, including sophomore Lynley Grace Anderson in 17th, senior Shea Fagan in 19th and freshman Josie Kemper in 25th.

Robertsdale took fifth place behind junior Ryan McGilvray’s 11th-place finish where she was joined by two more point-scorers in the top 25: sophomore Zoe Galloway in 18th and seventh-grader Makenzie Webb in 23rd.

Orange Beach eighth-grader Brooke Barnett and junior Libby Tierce secured top-10 finishes to help the Makos finish sixth. They were joined by two other point-scorers in the top 50, including eighth-grader Addison Davis in 44th and sophomore Perry Webb in 49th.
