The biennial spring reclassification of Alabama High School Sports Association schools was approved Tuesday, May 24, by the Central Board of Control for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years.

The Competitive Balance Factor has moved up local teams that compete in baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, golf and outdoor track. Orange Beach was already scheduled to move from Class 2A to 4A due to enrollment numbers.

On the baseball diamond, Bayshore Christian will move from Class 1A to 2A after two straight state titles.

Five Bayside Academy teams were moved up a classification as well. Baseball, outdoor track and boys' golf will all move from Class 3A to 4A, soccer will move from Class 1A-3A to 4A and girls' golf will move from Class 1A-3A to 4A-5A. Both track teams, the boys' golf team and boys' soccer team all won state championships in 2022.

"I want to thank the Central Board and AHSAA staff for their dedicated effort and time put in and the recommendations they made," AHSAA Executive Director Alvin Briggs said. "As always, it was a difficult job, but everyone worked together to find the best solution as we move forward."

Fall and Winter classifications for 2022-24 were already announced.
