The Bay Minette Public Library (BMPL) recently received a $1,700 grant from International Paper's Bay Minette Container Plant and the International Paper Foundation to bolster Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program for young children across Baldwin County.
Since its launch in January 2022, this program has brought free monthly books to children from birth until their fifth birthday, aiming to foster a love of reading early in life.
Originally limited to Bay Minette and north Baldwin County, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library quickly expanded, eventually covering all of Baldwin County. Each month, children enrolled in the program receive a book in the mail at no cost, inviting families to share in the joy of reading together.
"We are beyond thrilled to have International Paper's continued support for this wonderful program," BMPL Director Joanna Bailey said in a news release. "This grant funding helps put books into the hands of children throughout Baldwin County. We can all be proud that!"
The initial launch of the Imagination Library program was made possible through a combination of contributions, including support from state District 22 Sen. Greg Albritton (R-Fairhope) and a previous grant from International Paper. Now, with this latest funding, BMPL can continue delivering books and fostering literacy among Baldwin County's youngest residents.
International Paper's support of BMPL aligns with its broader mission to be a responsible and impactful corporate citizen. Since 1952, the International Paper Foundation has distributed millions in grants to nonprofits, prioritizing causes such as education, hunger, health and wellness, disaster relief and environmental sustainability.
"At International Paper, we believe our company cannot succeed if our communities do not succeed," said Randall Pittard, plant general manager. "We are proud to support the Bay Minette Public Library as they strive to make an impact on education in Bay Minette."
