The Bay Minette Recreation Department has launched a new recreational opportunity with the debut of Disc-Go Park, a nine-basket disc golf course nestled beside Halliday Park at 307 Clark Street.

City officials and community members gathered Friday morning for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the course, which features a blend of open space and wooded terrain — an ideal layout for players of all skill levels. The project revitalizes a previously underused section of the park and introduces residents to a sport that's quickly gaining popularity nationwide.

"Disc golf is a fantastic recreational activity for all ages — it's a great way to stay active while enjoying some friendly competition. We encourage everyone to get outside and give it a try," said Recreation Director Blake Clark. "We're thrilled to introduce a new and exciting sport to the Bay Minette community! A heartfelt thank you goes to Mayor (Bob) Wills, Jody McMillan and the Parks and Grounds Department for their hard work and dedication in bringing this vision to life."

The Parks Department has added picnic tables to the area and plans to install benches along the course in the coming weeks. Informational signage has been placed throughout to guide players, with distances marked between baskets. Players can also view the course layout using the UDisc app, a popular tool among disc golf enthusiasts.

Mayor Wills praised the project as a welcome addition for local residents.

"We were excited to have the ribbon cutting for our new Disc-Go Golf Course this morning. Disc golf has become a very popular sport, and we are glad that we are able to provide a fun project like this for our citizens to enjoy. FORE!" Wills said.

Disc-Go Park is free and open to the public daily.
