Battlefield Blitz 5K returns to Blakeley State Park

Posted

The boom of a Civil War era cannon will ring out over Historic Blakeley State Park next month to mark the return of the annual Battlefield Blitz 5K and Fun Run.
The cannon fire marks the start of the race held on Alabama's largest Civil War battlefield in Spanish Fort. The race was canceled last year due to the pandemic. Runners wind their way through a custom course along portions of one of the nation's best-preserved battlefields where Union and Confederate forces clashed over 150 years ago. Awards will be given in multiple age groups.
A one-mile "fun run," designed for casual competitors who want to be a part of the event but may not be interested in the formal race, will take place later that morning. Refreshments will be served to all participants and awards will be presented after the fun run.
The race will be held Saturday, Feb. 5. Preregistration for the Battlefield Blitz is $20. To register or for more information, visit www.blakeleypark.com/events. The Park is located on State Hwy. 225 about five miles north of Spanish Fort.
