Baseball playoffs: Elberta ends historic season

It didn't end how they wanted, but Elberta High School's baseball team made an historic run this postseason.

Round three marked the farthest the Warriors had ever gone in the playoffs, where they beat Marbury 2-1 in the best-of-three format.

Coming home initially for the Class 5A semifinals, they took game one versus St. Paul's Episcopal on Friday afternoon after a weather delay resulted in it being called. The game was tied 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, and officials ruled that since it could not be continued, the score would return to the last complete inning. At that time, Elberta led 1-0 off Roman Lochrico's RBI groundout that allowed Landen Adams to score the Warriors' only run of the game before the delay.

The Warriors' starting pitcher, Brady Harrison (11-2), played 6 innings and recorded 7 strikeouts while allowing 3 hits and 4 walks on 90 pitches.

With the win, Elberta moved to having won 16 of its last 18 games.

The rest of the series was moved to Matthews Park in Mobile, with game two being delayed to Saturday. Elberta lost both games, ending their record-breaking season on a rainy afternoon.
