Baptist Health Care has announced the promotion of Joy Powell to chief health equity officer, expanding her role as a key leader in the organization's efforts to improve health outcomes for underserved populations.

In addition to her new responsibilities, Powell will continue to oversee the Faith Health Network and Community Health programs, both of which she has played a pivotal role in developing according to a news release.

Powell, who has been with Baptist for seven years, brings over two decades of experience in chronic disease management, care management and community health initiatives. Her background includes extensive work in curriculum development, wellness education, grant writing, and securing funding for community health projects.

Powell's innovative approach to health care and dedication to improving community health have earned her multiple accolades. She received the World of Difference Community Navigation Award in 2017 and was recognized as the Pensacola Chamber's PACE Emerging Leader in 2021. Under her leadership, the Faith Health Network has gained recognition from both the Florida Hospital Association and the American Hospital Association for its impact on health care access and equity.

Outside of her professional achievements, Powell is deeply involved in the community, serving on several boards and organizations dedicated to health improvement. She is also a national Master Trainer for Community Health Workers and is set to complete her doctoral degree in health administration in December.

Baptist Health Care officials have praised Powell's passion for health equity, noting that her leadership continues to drive the organization's commitment to addressing disparities in health care access and outcomes.
