Bama Beach Pickleball Club holds beginner's tournament

GULF SHORES — Bama Beach Pickleball Club held a "Rising Star" tournament July 16-17 that was for new or beginner players to practice pickleball in a competitive environment.

With pickleball being the fastest-growing sport in the United States, this "Beginners' Fun Tournament" allowed for residents to participate without the stress of a serious competition.

The matches on the 16th were women's and men's doubles, which meant partners had to be of the same gender, and the matches on the 17th were mixed doubles. Partners were randomly assigned out of the 32 women and 10 men who signed up.

Each tournament day was played in the round robin style that allowed everyone to play against each other at some point. Faster games were held with a shortened game time to ensure everyone got to play.

Participants enjoyed the tournament and several brought home winning trophies for first, second and third places.

The Bama Beach Pickleball Club Website states that, "Over the years, the club has organized numerous tournaments, social events and clinics, further fueling the passion for pickleball in Gulf Shores."

The club regularly meets at the Gulf Shores Church of Christ Monday-Saturday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. with the additional time of 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays. Check out the club's website for more information on when to play, how to play and even the history of pickleball.
