Baldwin Pops Band brings holiday sound to life

Posted

The Baldwin Pops Band will present "Holiday Traditions" at locations across Baldwin County.

The band, conducted by Wayne Fillingim, will perform a variety of Christmas fare, including the classic "A Christmas Festival" by Leroy Anderson, an audience sing-along, "Greensleeves," arranged by Alfred Reed, "Jingle Bells Fantasy," arranged by John Wasson, and "Overture to a Winter Festival" by James Curnow. In addition, the band will play "Russian Christmas Music," written in 1944 by Alfred Reed to convey the sounds of Eastern Orthodox liturgical music, which uses only voice, to provide a musical impression of old Russia during the Christmas season.

The concert is a family friendly event, and Santa may even drop in for a short visit.

The first Baldwin Pops Band performance will take place Friday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. at Daphne Civic Center, located at 2603 U.S. Hwy 98, Daphne. The concert will be repeated Monday, Dec. 5, at the Foley Civic Center, located at 407 E. Laurel Ave., Foley at 7 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Erie Myers Civic Center, located at West Second Avenue, Gulf Shores at 7 p.m.

The "Holiday Traditions" concert is free to attend but attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots program.
