BAY MINETTE – One long-time Baldwin County legislator was defeated in the state primary Tuesday, May 24, while one county commissioner won the Republican nomination for re-election and another commission race will be decided in a runoff, according to complete, but unofficial results.

State Rep. Joe Faust lost to Jennifer Fidler in the race for the Republican nomination for House District 95. Fidler received 5,588 votes to 3,252 for Faust.

In the Baldwin County Commission District 4, incumbent Charles “Skip” Gruber defeated challenger Chris Crawford. Gruber received 15,418 votes, which Crawford received 12,384.

A race for County Commission District 2 will be decided in a runoff. Matt McKenzie and Steve Carey will compete in the runoff June 21. McKenzie received 12,250 votes, which Carey received 10,512. Candidate Jonathan Armstrong, a former county commissioner, received 7,652 votes.

The current District 2 commissioner, Joe Davis, did not run for re-election.

In the race for Baldwin County Board of Education District 4, incumbent JaNay Dawson trailed challenger by 19 votes. Kirby received 1,859 votes to 1,840 for Dawson.

Several other races were also on the Republican primary ballot Tuesday.

Frances Holk-Jones won a three-way race in the House District 95 race to fill the seat of Rep. Steve McMillan, who died earlier this year. Jones received 4,780 votes to 1,139 for Michael Ludvigsen Jr. and 1,336 for Reginald Pulliam.

In the race for Alabama House of Representatives District 64, Donna Givens received 3,104 votes, while Angelo Jacob Fermo received 2,903. Incumbent Rep. Harry Shiver did not run for re-election.

House District 96 incumbent Matt Simpson won the nomination defeating challenger Danielle Duggar 3,400 to 2,737.

Incumbent District 22 Sen. Greg Albritton received 4,957 votes to 3,629 for challenger Stephen Sexton in Baldwin County. The district includes four counties, with Albritton receiving a total of 12,331 votes, while Sexton received 6,315.

A total of 37,761 votes were cast in the Republican and Democratic primaries May 24. Poll officials described the turnout as very light.

The general election will be Nov. 8.
