Baldwin County's Jonathan Young wins immunity on "Survivor"

It's time to catch up on last week's episode of "Survivor" season 42 before the new episode airs Wednesday on CBS at 7 p.m. CST. If you did not watch, this would be a suitable time to stop reading before the spoilers start to flow.

Episode eight of "Survivor" season 42 opens on Day 17. There is not a reward challenge this week and the immunity challenge happens incredibly early in the episode. This week's challenge splits the remaining contestants into two teams but host Jeff Probst throws everyone a curve ball. Two people, one from each team, will earn immunity but two people will also be eliminated, one from each team. The blue team is made up of Gulf Shores' Jonathan Young, Drea, Tori, Lindsay and Maryann. The orange team is made up of the remaining men; Mike, Rocksroy, Romeo, Oman and Hai.

Everyone must balance on a triangular perch floating in the turbulent water without touching the perch. The last one for each team wins immunity and the last to remain on the perch overall wins their team meat and vegetable kabobs.

As the challenge begins, four people quickly loose balance and fall into the angry water. Hai is the last remaining orange team member and wins immunity. Young and Lindsay fight to keep their balance on the blue team. Ultimately, Young outlasts Lindsay and now must keep his position and outlast Hai to win the food for his team. In the end Young is victorious. His team will also go to tribal council last so they can see who is voted off the orange team before making their vote.

The orange team debates whether it is best to vote out Rocksroy or Romeo. Young tries to get support to vote Drea out on the blue team.

At tribal council, the orange team votes off Rocksroy and he joins Chanel on the jury. When the blue team comes to tribal council Maryann and Drea are saddened to see Rocksroy. They are visibly upset and voice their concern over the last two eliminations possibly being driven by race. Drea and Maryann use their idols to stay in the game.

A debate ensues among the blue team and host Jeff Probst about ways the show can combat social bias, whether unconscious or conscious. Maryann and Drea speak about how they came to the game knowing they would need to act and speak a certain way to stay in the game.

Playing their idols, Drea and Maryann are safe and Young has immunity, leaving Tori and Lindsay up for elimination. In an unusual turn, the team chooses not to go into the booth to vote but rather to hash it out in the open. In the end, Tori is eliminated.

Some of the female contestants made comments during confessionals about how they didn't like how Young did not listen to them and pushed his opinions on them. Will his new vocal persona and dominating physicality put him in danger of elimination? Will Young be able to keep in the majority? Check back next week to see if Young stays in the game or if his torch be the next extinguished?

"Survivor" season 42 airs on CBS each Wednesday at 7 p.m. CST.
