Students, families and school staff across Baldwin County will take part in National Walk and Roll to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 8, joining thousands nationwide in celebrating healthier, safer communities.
Led by the Baldwin County Safe Routes to School Coalition, the annual fall event encourages students to walk or roll to school, promoting fitness, safer streets and stronger community connections according to a news release. Organizers say even small steps can make a meaningful impact on public health, neighborhoods and the environment.
Each participating school will host its own Walk and Roll event, with details determined locally. Families and students typically meet at a designated spot a mile or less from the school and travel together, transforming a regular school day into a celebration of community pride.
Participants include Florence B. Mathis Elementary, Foley Elementary, Gulf Shores City Schools, Orange Beach Elementary, St. Patrick Catholic School, Fairhope West Elementary, Fairhope East Elementary on October 10, Daphne Elementary, Daphne East Elementary, Bay Minette Elementary and Summerdale School.
Those interested in joining are encouraged to contact their local school for event information. Organizers said that whether participants walk, roll or cheer from the sidelines, they contribute to stronger, healthier communities.
