Poll workers in Alabama this year will be paid more than last election cycle.

A law passed during the 2023 legislative session increased the minimum wage for poll workers statewide, according to a news release from the Baldwin County Commission, which passed a corresponding action to match the state law.

There are 59 polling places in Baldwin County.

Pay for poll workers varies by responsibility: clerks earn $175, chief clerks earn $185, and inspectors earn $200 for service on Election Day.

Requirements for poll workers:

  • Must be a registered voter in the State of Alabama;
  • Must be registered to vote in the county in which they desire to act as a poll worker;
  • Must attend a mandatory poll worker training. There are no exceptions to this requirement; and
  • Cannot be a member of a candidate's immediate family or the second degree of kinship, and cannot be a member of a candidate's political committee.

Anyone interested in becoming a poll worker is encouraged to visit www.sos.alabama.gov/alabama-votes/become-poll-worker to obtain more information. Poll worker applications/interest forms should be submitted to the Baldwin County Probate Office or emailed to tchance@baldwincountyal.gov.
