Baldwin County Commission recently discussed a recent ongoing initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of life for senior citizens in Baldwin County.
In 2022, two new senior activity centers for independent living in the Loxley and Little River communities opened. Both activity centers are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and include games such as dominos, cards and even a Nintendo Wii. The Loxley center also brings in performances from bluegrass bands for entertainment. Hot meals and coffee are provided.
Baldwin County also offers a knitting and crocheting class as well as a ceramics class.
Knitting and crocheting classes are held Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Those who attend will learn to make blankets, sweaters and hats. According to the Baldwin County website, these items will be donated to "nursing homes, veterans homes and hospitals for premature infants."
The ceramics classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Council on Aging. In order to participate in the senior activities, you must be 60 or older and can sign up at the center.
Not only are there these activities for senior citizens, but Baldwin County has six centers that provide hot meals and health screenings. These centers are in Daphne, Bay Minette, Loxley, Vaughn, Little River and Summerdale. These nutritional locations also provide homebound and frozen meal programs.
