Baldwin County High School’s newest head football coach, Andrew Davis, is plenty familiar with Bay Minette.
Not only did he spend 2017-2019 as the offensive line coach under Nathan McDaniel, but he also graduated from Daphne High School in 2005. Davis was a freshman on the Trojans’ 2001 state championship team that had to beat the Baldwin County Tigers for the Class 6A Region 2 crown.
Now, he takes over the Bay Minette program as a first-time head coach with most of his assistant coaching time spent on the offensive side of the ball.
Most recently, Davis was quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for the Spanish Fort Toros who narrowly took down Baldwin County 14-13 in Week 3 of the 2023 season. Before that, he spent six seasons under McDaniel as offensive coordinator of the Elberta Warriors from 2020-2022 and the 2017-2019 stint as the Baldwin County Tigers’ offensive line coach.
Davis also coached the offensive line at his alma mater under one of his head coaches, Glenn Vickery, from 2013-2016 as well as tight ends at McGill-Toolen in 2011. While he did switch to defense in 2012 under Ben Blackmon with the Gulf Shores Dolphins, Davis stayed in the trenches and was defensive line coach.
Davis was an offensive lineman himself, listed as a 6-foot-1, 265-pound redshirt freshman on the roster of the 2006 Southern Miss Golden Eagles.
Baldwin County is coming off a 2-8 season last year with a 43-13 win over Robertsdale in the season finale.
The Tigers’ 2024 schedule features non-region opponents in the Foley Lions and Mary G. Montgomery Vikings, both from Class 7A. They’re scheduled to have Class 6A Region 1 games at home against the St. Paul’s Saints, Murphy Panthers, Gulf Shores Dolphins and McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets. Baldwin County is set to hit the road for region contests against the Spanish Fort Toros, Theodore Bobcats, Saraland Spartans and Blount Leopards.
