Baldwin County golfers earn wins at Senior Bowl Winter Classic

Fairhope’s Miller, Farrow as well as Spanish Fort’s Madden score wins to close year

Posted

Three of the seven division winners from the Reese’s Senior Bowl Winter Classic golf tournament hailed from Baldwin County. Fairhope’s Miles Miller won the varsity boys’ group, Will Farrow won the boys’ 9-11 division and Spanish Fort’s Ainsley Madden won the girls’ 12-13 division.

Nineteen local golfers were among the field at Azalea City Golf Course in Mobile at the end of last week, Dec. 28 and 29, 2022, where 13 top-10 finishes were recorded.

Miller was in fourth place after Round 1 but registered the best second-round score and finished with a two-stroke advantage over a pair of runners-up. He was one of two Fairhope High golfers to earn wins on the links to close the year, joining junior Trip Duke.

Farrow had the closest margin of victory where he and Foley’s Matthew DeRoy were the only two to shoot under par for both rounds. Farrow won Round 1 by two strokes and DeRoy won Round 2 by only one stroke so Farrow’s early lead secured his win.

Madden led the whole way after she held a six-stroke lead after Round 1 and extended it to 16 strokes after Round 2 to claim the victory.

Other top-10 finishes included Michael Heaton (T4th), Miles Jackson (6th) and Alex Seahorn (T8th) in the varsity boys division and Causey Thompson (2nd), Katie Hallmark (3rd), Ashlynd Madden (5th) and Samiya Bodalia (T7th) in the varsity girls division. In the boys 12-13 division, Campbell Hughes finished third and in the boys 9-11 division, DeRoy finished second and Price McHenry registered sixth.
