WE DID IT FIRST ANTHOLOGY RELEASE

What: The Mobile Arts Council will host a release party for "We Did It First," an anthology of work by more than 50 local poets, curated by Charlotte Pence, Mobile's first Poet Laureate. The event will include live readings, book signings and a celebration of literary arts.

When: Thursday, April 17, 5:30 p.m.

Where: Mobile Arts Council Gallery @ Room 1927, 6 S. Joachim St., Mobile

WRITER IN RESIDENCE RECEPTION

What: The Fairhope Center for the Writing Arts will host a reception for its April writer in residence, Mary Miller, author of "Biloxi: A Novel" and two short story collections. Miller's work has appeared in the Paris Review, Oxford American, McSweeney's Quarterly and American Short Fiction. She previously served as a Grisham writer-in-residence at the University of Mississippi and is currently an associate professor at Mississippi University for Women. The event will feature a casual talk or reading by the author. Light refreshments will be served.

When: Thursday, April 17, 5:30 p.m.

Where: Giddens Conference Center, Fairhope Public Library, 501 Fairhope Ave., Fairhope

LAGOON WATER QUALITY MEETING

What: The Little Lagoon Preservation Society will host a meeting with Nan Steedley, Director of the Seafood Branch at the Alabama Department of Public Health, to discuss the Alabama Coastal Beach Monitoring Program, water sampling protocols and oyster safety. Scott Bannon, Director of the Alabama Marine Resources Division, will also attend. Light refreshments and networking begin at 5:30 p.m., with the talk at 6 p.m.

BLESSING OF THE FLEET

What: Zeke's Landing Marina will host its Annual Blessing of the Fleet with a community celebration featuring live music by Brent Varner Band, food and drink specials. The traditional blessing ceremony aims to ensure a safe and prosperous season for local vessels and fishermen.

When: Saturday, April 19, 3-8 p.m.

Where: Zeke's Landing Marina, 26619 Perdido Beach Blvd., Orange Beach

Price: Free

MOBILE BAY MAKER'S MARKET

What: A community market featuring artists, creators, makers and growers from the Gulf Coast. The event is held every other Sunday and offers a range of handmade and homegrown items from local small businesses. Organized by a group of makers who've been active since 2021, the market celebrates creativity, craftsmanship and community.

When: Sunday, April 20, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Where: 6925 Twin Beech Road, Fairhope

Price: Free
