Today, June 14, is World Blood Donor Day, and the American Red Cross needs your help.
According to the Red Cross, there is a critical need for blood donors amidst a significant shortfall in donations over recent weeks. Donors of all blood types, particularly those with type O blood and platelet donors, are urgently sought to address this shortage.
Summer travel records and severe weather conditions are expected to persist throughout the season, potentially hindering donors' ability to contribute. With fewer donations, hospitals face a diminished blood supply, impacting patient care. The Red Cross encourages individuals to prioritize blood donation this summer. Appointments can be booked by visiting www.RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS or using the Red Cross Blood Donor App.
World Blood Donor Day, observed on June 14, aims to raise awareness of the need for a safe, diverse and stable blood supply while honoring volunteer blood donors. This occasion presents an opportune moment for individuals, especially those who have not donated previously, to consider contributing.
Additionally, from June 10 to June 30, individuals who donate blood will receive a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice. Further details are available at www.RedCrossBlood.org/DoGood.
