Five Baldwin County basketball teams will be among the 164 squads descending upon the Finley Center in Hoover June 15-17 for the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Scholastic Team Basketball Camp.

Girls’ teams from Daphne, Foley, Gulf Shores and Spanish Fort will join the boys’ team from Fairhope in competing against teams from around the state all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday across the 10 courts.

The NFHS-approved camp is being administered by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association (AHSADCA) in conjunction with the Finley Center and is an NFHS-approved scholastic event. The camp will include 70 varsity girls’ and 94 varsity boys’ teams.

Twenty-four teams competing in the camp participated in the AHSAA Final Four State Basketball Championships last winter. Among them are the Class 7A Foley Lions who made their first-ever state semifinal with only eight roster spots taken up.

Other Final Four competitors include the Class 7A girls’ state champion Hoover, six-time Class 6A girls’ state champion Hazel Green, Class 5A state champion Pleasant Grove, Class 4A state champion Prattville Christian, Class 2A state champion Mars Hill Bible and state runners-up Cold Springs (2A), Priceville (4A), Arab (5A) and Sparkman (7A).

Registered for the boys’ varsity division are Class 7A state champion Hoover, Class 6A state champion Buckhorn, Class 3A state champion Plainview, and state runners-up Sparkman (7A), Mountain Brook (6A), Westminster Christian (4A) and Midfield (3A).

College coaches will be attending the camp surveying the talented student-athletes participating from AHSAA-member schools. Games will be played on 10 courts with the girls’ teams kicking off the action at 9 a.m., Thursday and Friday. Boys’ games will be played Thursday, Friday and Saturday where the last games are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. each day.

“We are very excited about the number teams set to participate in this year’s June Scholastic Event,” said AHSAA Assistant Director Devin Booth. “This event will provide a large number of our student-athletes a great learning experience and will also give them exposure to college coaches from throughout the South who plan to attend. We are grateful to the Hoover Finley Center and its staff for hosting this event for the AHSADCA.”

GAMES: Each game will consist of four eight-minute quarters, a 3-minute halftime, and a 5-minute warm-up. While only team fouls will be noted, the new NFHS rules which were recently approved for the next season concerning free throws and throw-in spots will be implemented.

TICKETS: Daily tickets can be purchased through gofan.co from June 5 until June 14 at 11:59 p.m. Tickets purchased on or after the day of the event must be purchased at the Finley Center gate. The Finley Center is cashless and will accept cards only, or a prepaid GOFAN ticket. Tickets are $10 which includes a $2 facility fee. A special seating area will be provided for college coaches. Spectators will not be allowed in the college coaches’ area.
