As the basketball regular season winds down, area playoff races are heating up on the hardwood. Tuesday’s slate of games is no different where many area brackets will get closer to final seeding ahead of the Jan. 31 deadline.

Postseason play will begin for both girls’ and boys’ teams Saturday, Feb. 4, before the regional round starts Feb. 13.

Entering play Tuesday night, both AHSAA area leaders came from Class 7A where the Foley Lady Lions and Fairhope Pirates remained atop their standings. Also on the girls’ circuit, Spanish Fort, Gulf Shores and St. Michael all entered Tuesday in second place in their respective classification, as did the Toros, Dolphins and Orange Beach Makos on the boys’ side.

In the Alabama Independent School Association ranks, Snook Christian also remained the clubhouse leader with a 4-0 mark through play within Region 2 entering action Tuesday night.

Both boys’ squads from Fairhope and Snook, as well as the girls’ team from Foley, were all represented in the Jan. 19 edition of the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s state rankings as well.

Fairhope was No. 6 in the Class 7A boys’ rankings, Foley checked in at No. 7 in the Class 7A girls’ rankings and Snook was the 10th-ranked team in the AISA boys’ rankings.

Stay tuned for the Tuesday night scorecard where area standings will also be updated.
