If you have been through Orange Beach this past year you may have noticed a new building with a storefront and a sign with an interesting name.

Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii, a coffee franchise known for its sourcing, roasting and quality 100% Hawaiian coffees and international blends, opened its newest location in Orange Beach earlier this month. The shop, located at 24824 Canal Road, offers premium coffees with a kick, branded merchandise and a food menu inspired by the Hawaiian Islands.

Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii in Orange Beach is owned and operated by local entrepreneur Kat Walsh Hammac. She has always had the desire to open a coffee shop and sent herself to coffee school in Portland in 2011. After getting a taste of the coffee industry, she opened two independent coffee shops and later decided to convert them to Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii locations in 2018. This new location marks her third shop with the coffee brand and she has plans to open a fourth Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii in Pensacola Beach later this year.

"The coffee industry is one that I have grown to know and love over the last several years, and I could not be more excited to bring such high quality and unique products to local coffee lovers," said Hammac. "The opportunity to bring authentic Hawaiian flavors to Alabama and the Florida panhandle is an opportunity I couldn't pass up. I simply cannot wait for the Orange Beach community to receive a fresh boost of Hawaii with every sip."

Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii started on the Big Island of Hawaii in 1989. Its name pays tribute to an important animal in Hawaiian coffee history. Legend has it that for generations, donkeys could be heard bellowing as they carried loads of coffee beans down the steep mountains of the Big Island. The people of Kona named these hard-working donkeys the "Bad Ass Ones" because of their reliably strong, but stubborn nature in carrying their precious cargo.

Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii – Orange Beach is open Monday through Sunday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 24824 Canal Road in Orange Beach. For more information, visit badasscoffee.com or call (251) 200-0875.
