Avelo Airlines announces nonstop from Mobile International Airport to Orlando

An airline announced Tuesday it plans to become the first commercial service in Mobile to fly nonstop to Florida.

Avelo Airlines will fly nonstop to Orlando from Mobile International Airport beginning with a special inaugural flight May 31 before launching normal operation twice weekly on Tuesdays and Sundays on Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft. According to a news release, introductory one-way fares between Mobile International (BFM) and Orlando (MCO) start at $29.

Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrey Levy said in the news release that Alabama represents the 22nd state the airline will serve.

“Mobile – it’s time to say hello to Avelo! We look forward to introducing the Northern Gulf to Avelo’s low fares, industry-leading reliability and caring service,” Levy said.

The planned Mobile International Airport is expected to be a boost for Baldwin County as well as Mobile, as it will bring services closer to the Eastern Shore once it fully opens at the downtown Brookley complex in 2025. According to previous reporting from Gulf Coast Media, the site, which is also the location of the Airbus aircraft assembly plant, was built as an Air Force base before being closed in the 1960s.

Chris Curry, Mobile Airport Authority director, said in November moving the region’s main airport from its current Mobile Regional airport site in west Mobile will put its terminal closer for about 140,000 more people, including the population of Fairhope, Spanish Fort and Daphne along the Eastern Shore.
