Renowned author Jason Reynolds met with students at Bay Minette Middle School in a private event as part of the final leg of his "Grab The Mic: Tell Your Story" platform.

The event was moderated by Lenise Ligon with Fox10 News along with Bay Minette Middle School students Starla Chapman and Jy'Quan Benjamin.

Students in the crowd were also permitted to ask questions of the author, who shared about his writing experiences and motivations.

Reynolds is currently the National Ambassador for Young People's Literature through the Library of Congress in Washington D.C.

Bay Minette Middle School (BMMS) is one of only nine schools across the country that Reynolds visited in person during this last year of his ambassadorship.

BMMS was chosen out of hundreds of applicants based on a proposal submitted by librarian, Ronda Campbell. Schools involved with the "GRAB THE MIC" tour each received a Story Cube, a stand-alone device that allows students to create, edit, and print stories of their own. Story Cubes are specifically designed for classroom use and offer educators a fun, immersive way to inspire creative thinking and analysis. The Cube allows students to share their stories with select peers participating in the program nationwide.
Simon & Schuster Publishing along with the Dollar General Literacy Foundation donated signed copies of Reynolds' book, "Look Both Ways: A Tale Told in Ten Blocks" to all students participating in the event.

Reynolds is the author of 13 books for young people including "Look Both Ways: A Tale Told in Ten Blocks," a National Book Award finalist, which was named a Best Book of 2019 by NPR, The New York Times, The Washington Post and Time.

A native of Washington D.C., Reynolds began writing poetry at 9-years-old and is the recipient of a Newberry Honor, a Printz honor, an NAACP Image Award, and multiple Coretta Scott King Award honors.
