Alex Warner, co-founder, to leave Bagel Boy Foley

Posted

One chapter is ending as a new is being written in the Foley food scene. Alex Warner is no longer part of Bagel Boy.

The separation was announced in a statement released on eatery’s Facebook page Monday, June 3. It read, in part:

“Bagel Boy was started in 2022 when Ben Simmons added Alex Warner to a larger company Simmons started back in 2011. Since that time, we have brought on five majority and minority investors to help us grow and weather the stormy waters of the restaurant industry. All key investors and owners remain the same at Bagel Boy until today. Today, we bid farewell to Alex Warner, our social media guru, as he embarks on new adventures, and we’re excited for what’s to come.”

The post has the ability for public comments turned off.

Warner made his announcement on his personal Facebook page 20 minutes after the Bagel Boy Foley post that read, in part:

“Bagel Boy Foley has been a dream come true since the very beginning, but like all things, our time together has come to an end.

“It is time for the next big thing.

“Having the opportunity to help open this special shop in our little town has been a dream come true.

“I want to thank every single one of you for your support from the very beginning days until now. Though I will no longer be a part of Bagel Boy, I will always be here for you.

“It has been an absolute pleasure seeing your faces every morning, getting to know you and being able to break bread with you.

“I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. Thank you.”

Gulf Coast Media has been behind the scenes in the Bagel Boy kitchen with Warner before the doors opened back in August 2022.

Warner has been working in the hospitality industry since he was a teen and traveled to Denver to live the big city life for eight years before returning to Foley. He hit a point where he wanted something of his own.

He fell in love with baking and started selling cakes and cookies to customers and baked items for the Copper Kettle, owned by his mother and aunt. He couldn’t compete with the commercial bakeries, so he looked for something new, and that is when bagels took center stage.

He spent months perfecting his bagel recipe and held three pop-ups to test the desire for bagels in Foley. The first pop-up sold out of 230 bagels in just one hour. The second sold out 200 in 30 minutes.

From his first interview, Warner was open about his dreams of opening multiple restaurant concepts in Foley and his desire to see downtown Foley prosper with foot traffic like Fairhope.

The Next Chapter

Bagel Boy Foley will continue under the direction of Warner’s former business partner, Ben Simmons, while Warner works on his new concept, Cheeseburger Randy’s, with partner Marcus Owens.

Cheeseburger Randy’s was first announced publicly at the end of March, and Warner was hopeful they would be open by June. However, the property has needed more work to open than originally thought, but Warner is projecting they will be open before July.

The restaurant is set to have a small and focused menu of cheeseburgers, hamburgers fries, onion rings and beverages. They also recently announced there could be breakfast sandwiches on the menu as well.
