The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) demolition teams worked overnight on Monday, June 17, to bring down the Foley Beach Express toll plaza roof, with the group now shifting focus to the final removal of the toll plaza structure.
Construction crews will soon apply an asphalt overlay to the current concrete section of the roadway to create a smooth and durable driving surface, followed by temporary striping to guide traffic, ALDOT stated in its Tuesday, June 18, update. A mandatory seven-day curing period will take place to allow the asphalt to set properly, which ALDOT expects to end by Tuesday July, 2, at 5 a.m.
Once the curing period concludes, the final phase of the project will begin, including the application of permanent striping and pavement markers.
"This final step will mark the completion of the toll plaza removal and the improvement of the Baldwin Beach Express," ALDOT wrote.
