Alabama Water Rally returns to Fairhope for 2025 gathering

Posted

Alabama's premier event for water advocates and environmental stewards returns to Camp Beckwith on Weeks Bay from March 28-30, bringing together experts, activists and community members committed to protecting the state's waterways.

Organized by the Alabama Rivers Alliance, the annual Alabama Water Rally offers a platform for education, networking and collaboration among those dedicated to clean water and resilient ecosystems. This year's theme focuses on engaging with government at all levels — local, state and federal — while equipping attendees with strategies to advance water protection efforts.

Registration closes March 15, and attendance is expected to be strong. All motel-style rooms at Camp Beckwith have been booked, but dorm-style lodging remains available. Organizers have also secured discounted hotel rooms nearby, along with Airbnb options.

A PACKED AGENDA

The conference will feature a series of plenaries, workshops and training sessions designed to address critical water-related challenges and opportunities in 2025 and beyond. National and local experts will discuss pressing topics, including climate resilience, biodiversity impacts and legislative advocacy. A panel of funders from national, regional and local organizations will provide insights into financial resources for water initiatives.

Among the featured speakers are Erin Kanzig of River Network, Ryan Anderson of the Southern Environmental Law Center, Joy Myers of the Railroad Park Foundation, and David Butler of Cahaba Riverkeeper. Other notable voices include Carlee Sanford of EBSCO Charitable Giving, Reverend Michael Malcom of the People's Justice Council and Treasure Adams of Mobile Baykeeper.

Session topics range from dam removal efforts across Alabama and the rights of nature to stormwater management and the impact of PFAS chemicals. A highly anticipated young professionals' presentation will spotlight emerging issues in the environmental sector.

MORE THAN JUST DISCUSSIONS

Beyond workshops and plenaries, Alabama Water Rally will include interactive experiences such as birdwatching, forest bathing and live music. The event will also feature the River Celebration Awards and a special tasting of the new Alabama LIGHT beer.

HOW TO ATTEND

Conference registration fees range from $75 for a single-day pass to $175 for non-members attending the full event. Lodging is not included. More details and registration information can be found at https://alabamarivers.org/wr25/.
