The Alabama Cooperative Extension Service is set to host a Garden-to-Pantry workshop in Fairhope, offering participants a comprehensive guide to cultivating, preserving and enjoying their own home-grown produce.
Scheduled for July 24, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the workshop will feature expert guidance from Home Grounds Agent Carmen Flammini, who will delve into topics such as optimal crops for local climates, planting schedules, maintenance techniques and pest control strategies.
Joining Flammini is Food Safety Agent Rebecca Catalena, who will demonstrate proper preparation and pressure canning techniques to ensure participants can preserve their harvest safely and effectively. Meanwhile, Human Nutrition, Diet and Health Agent Alexia Simmons will provide valuable insights into making healthy food choices both at the grocery store and while dining out.
Attendees can look forward to leaving with not just newfound knowledge but also a tangible reminder of their experience: each participant will receive a jar of freshly canned green beans.
The workshop requires pre-registration and carries a fee of $12. For more information and to secure a spot, interested individuals are encouraged to visit www.aces.edu/go/4185.
For further inquiries, please contact Rebecca Catalena at rjc0026@auburn.edu.
Don't miss this opportunity to empower yourself with the skills to cultivate a thriving garden and transform your harvest into delicious, nutritious meals.
