The Elberta football Warriors’ offense will have a legendary name calling plays next season in 11-time state champion Bobby Carr.

Warrior head coach Nathan McDaniel played for Carr his first three years of high school at New Life Christian School and after a lone season of head coaching in Mississippi, Carr is returning to Alabama to join his former player’s staff.

Carr brings 27 years of experience as a head coach on the Alabama Independent School Association circuit with an overall record of 255-54 and 10 state championships. He won another title as an assistant at Autauga Academy before he was promoted to head coach.

As head coach of the Edgewood Wildcats for 15 seasons, Carr’s teams went to the playoffs all but one year and rattled off six straight state championships where the latter five all finished off undefeated seasons, which set an AISA record. Edgewood set another state record with its 71-game win streak over that stretch and the six consecutive championships also remain as an AISA record.

A former professional baseball player, Carr also coached baseball during his time with the Wildcats and delivered 13 trips to the state finals where Edgewood returned with 11 championships where the last eight came consecutively. Carr finished his final six seasons as head coach of the Wildcats’ football and baseball teams with state titles in both sports.

He’ll take over Elberta’s offense that set program scoring records of 48 points in a game and 210 points in a season during McDaniel’s first year at the helm in 2020. That was also the Warriors’ first season of varsity competition on the Alabama High School Athletic Association circuit just two years after the school first opened its doors.

Elberta is scheduled to open the 2023 season with a jamboree against the Robertsdale Golden Bears Aug. 17 before kicking off the regular season on the road against Bayside Academy Aug. 25. Play within Class 5A Region 1 is set to open Sept. 1 at home against Faith Academy.
