This weekend, there are a handful of things to do, from learning about our beaches and shores for National Beach Day or playing golf to support local education initiatives. You can party all weekend at OWA or see fireworks at The Wharf. Toss mullet for prizes or enjoy a delicious seafood dinner and take a cruise on the lower Mobile-Tensaw Delta.

What: Stop by the white sandy beaches of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach and celebrate with Learning Campus Educators. Activities will take place at the Interpretive Center, Alabama's most environmentally friendly building and pursuing LEED Platinum and full Living Building Challenge certifications. Interested in learning more about the unique sustainability of the Interpretive Center? An educator will be stationed outside to give you a tour of the building from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Learn all about what can be found in and around our beach ecosystems before finishing the class by creating your own beautiful glass terrarium filled with natural items that mimic what can be found on our shores. What: Since 1993, the Annual National Shrimp Festival Golf Challenge for Education has acted as a kick-off to the excitement in the month leading up to the festival. Money raised for the goes toward the local Chamber's education initiatives. To sign up, go to https://bit.ly/sfgolf24.

What: Kick off fall in Downtown OWA at the Labor Day Weekend Party. Start on Friday with free kids' activities, photo ops with stilt walkers and popsicles. At 4:30 pm, enjoy a dive-in movie at Big Water Bay on the big screen in Tropic Falls with a park admission ticket or pass. Returning for its sixth year, the OWA Labor Day Car Show is back on Saturday, Aug. 31. During this picturesque fall event, cars of all makes and models will be on display throughout the charming streets of Downtown OWA. With hot rods and custom builds from all decades lining the streets, this car show is bound to have something that catches your eye. Stick around after the car show for lawn games and a free live outdoor concert on OWA Island from Jenna McClelland at 5:30 p.m. and Brandon Giles at 7:30 p.m. Round off the night with a fireworks show at 8:50 p.m., synchronized with patriotic music playing throughout the property. The fireworks will go off at 8:50 p.m. sharp and can be seen in the air over Downtown OWA and Tropic Falls. On Sunday, there will be kid activities at Tropic Falls and complimentary red, white and blue popsicles at the Native Treasures Alcove. More live music will follow, starting at 4:30 p.m. with Duhe and Daboys. Closing out the night, the Tobacco Rd band will perform a live blend of country-rock at 6 p.m.

What: Come out for a celebration full of color with DJ Matt at The Wharf. There will be tunes, games and fireworks. Fireworks start at 8:45 p.m. Then, stick around for the Spectra Laser Light Experience show to follow, with shows at 8:30, 9 and 9:30 p.m.

What: It's time to plan for a great Labor Day family event as the Optimist Club of Perdido Bay will hosts this annual event at the Lillian Community Club. It is the major fundraising event for the club whose mission is to "Bring Out the Best in Kids." The Optimist club of Perdido Bay provides approximately $10,000 in grants to local schools and school and area organizations that serve the needs of children and teens in the community. American Legion Post 48 will once again be on hand to present the colors at 7:15 a.m. to officially begin the event. There will be a 5K run/walk, the annual Optimist breakfast for $5 (kids 8 and under free), a silent auction, Déjà Vu Market and Bake Sale, lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and live music and more, but the main event is the Mullet Toss, which will be from 10 a.m. to noon with age-level prizes to be awarded in the hall at 12:30 p.m.
