The Alabama Coastal Kids Quiz launched on Wednesday, Sept. 21 for the 2022-2023 school year. The program is part of the Alabama Coastal Foundation, a statewide nonprofit offering the free education program to any public or private fifth grade teacher in the state.
The online program is designed to help students learn about Alabama's coastal environment and provides participating teachers five opportunities to receive $100 in support of classroom instruction.
The quiz consists of five rounds that are scheduled over the current school year. Topics include oysters, weather, watersheds, coastal insects and sea turtles. Fifth grade teachers must register individually at www.joinACF.org.
Teachers who meet the minimum requirement of 80% class participation will be eligible to receive $100 each round. Round 1 (Oysters) lasts until Wednesday, Oct. 12, with awards being announced on Thursday, Oct. 13.
Fifth grade teachers can register for free at any time to receive local resources that students can access to learn about important coastal topics.
