When the T.R. Miller Tigers come to Freedom Field in Daphne Friday night, they’ll have an undefeated clash with the Bayside Academy Admirals where the Class 3A Region 1 title will be up for grabs.

T.R. Miller, which has been ranked No. 1 since Week 3, will enter 8-0 overall and 5-0 in region play. Bayside Academy, following a season-opening loss, will enter on a seven-game winning streak at 7-1 overall and a similar 5-0 mark in region.

The Admirals have leaned on their defense which dropped its average point allowance to 9.6 per game with last week’s shutout of Excel. Bayside Academy’s region foes have only scored 27 points in five games, where Hillcrest-Evergreen registered 20 of them in Week 7, to lead the group just in front of the Tigers’ 42.

Junior linebackers Billy Neill and Monroe Partin have helped lead the Admiral unit and both rank in the top 10 for total tackles in the Alabama High School Athletic Association according to MaxPreps stats.

Neill held the edge entering Week 10 with 137 total tackles between 81 solos and 56 assists with 8 tackles for loss and 3 sacks for No. 5 in the state. Partin was right behind him as the sixth-ranked tackler in Alabama with 136 total tackles between 71 solos and 65 assists with 5 tackles for loss and 2 sacks.

The pair also represented Bayside Academy in the top 30 of the nationwide standings at Nos. 22 and 26, respectively.

The Admirals will get their tallest offensive test so far as T.R. Miller has scored at least 28 points in every contest and will carry an average of 40.5 points per game. The Tigers also narrowly lead Class 3A Region 1 in offense with 228 total points to sit in front of Hillcrest-Evergreen’s 222. On the other side of the ball, T.R. Miller has allowed more than 14 points only twice so far to complement a pair of shutouts.

With a 31-17 win in last year’s matchup, the Tigers have won the last four meetings to hold a 12-4 lead in the all-time series according to the Alabama High School Football Historical Society.

Gulf Shores Dolphins at Baldwin County Tigers

A game that suddenly has playoff implications will take place in Bay Minette as the Gulf Shores Dolphins travel to face the Baldwin County Tigers. The fourth and final postseason berth from Class 6A Region 1 will be determined over the next two weeks as five teams jockey for positioning.

Gulf Shores (2-5) still has Baldwin County (1-5) and Murphy (0-7) on its schedule needing two wins on top of help from other teams following last week’s last-second loss to Theodore (3-3). The Tigers have the Dolphins and McGill-Toolen (3-3) left on the docket and could also benefit from a pair of victories in addition to losses by Theodore to Saraland (7-0) and Blount (2-5) over the next two weeks.

Saraland, Spanish Fort (5-1) and St. Paul’s (5-1) have all locked in postseason berths and only Murphy has been mathematically eliminated so far.

It will serve as the first meeting between Gulf Shores and Baldwin County since 2021 when the Tigers prevailed 46-7 for their seventh-straight win in the series and a 7-3 all-time lead.
