GULF SHORES — Gulf Shores Elementary and Gulf Shores Middle Schools will each receive a grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama's Be Healthy School Grant Program. Committed to preventing childhood obesity, the program is awarding $291,000 in grants to 31 Alabama schools enrolling students in grades Kindergarten through eighth for the 2022-2023 school year. Each school will receive a grant up to $10,000.
Grant funds can be used towards the implementation of school-based health and wellness programs, emphasizing increased exercise and nutrition education during the school year. Roughly 16,000 students will benefit from this year's grant distribution.
Blue Cross has awarded over $2.5 million in 284 Be Healthy School Grants across 64 Alabama counties since 2012. These grants have made an impact in the lives of more than 134,000 students.
