For the fifth time in as many years, the Daphne Trojan girls’ wrestling team secured a top-two finish at the AHSAA state championship tournament in Huntsville. Daphne became the first team to win a Red Map trophy in the Class 6A-7A division now that the AHSAA has sanctioned girls’ wrestling as a championship sport. Four Trojans (McKenzie Nguyen, Kimber Alford, Kalyse Hill and Taliah Wade) won individual state titles and two more (Alanah Girard and Bella Harris) finished as runners-up.

The five newest members of the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame were announced on Thursday, March 6, and are set to be honored at The Grand Hotel in Point Clear later this spring. The inductees include Jon Gruden from the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Terron Armstead from the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins, Geno Atkins from the Cincinnati Bengals, Alex Mack from the Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons and Richard Sherman from the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers. And, following impressive debut seasons with their NFL teams, three Senior Bowl alumni were selected as the game’s Rookies of the Year. Braden Fiske from the Los Angeles Rams was the defensive representative alongside co-offensive honorees Bo Nix (Denver Broncos) and Ladd McConkey (Los Angeles Chargers).

Glenn Patrick became the new 60-meter dash record holder for the Coast Guard Academy indoor track program with a 7.04 at the Springfield College Triangle Classic on Feb. 22 to close the regular season. In four meets, Patrick improved his time in the event each time out and broke a 14-year-old record previously held by Tiernan Bonner at 7.11 from 2011.
